The Rodeo and Security+

The Rodeo is currently malfunctioning. It keeps going in to “safe” mode, and getting stuck in third gear. My Dad is trying to install a safety switch to fix the problem somehow. I am not sure how it works, but it sounds like it will keep the Rodeo in third gear. I am also beginning to study for Security+. I wish I had thought to do this sooner. But as it is, I really need to study for it, so while I save my money to take the exam I should get plenty of study.

I do not know much about working on vehicles. But my Dad is good at fixing the ones he has. So, he is working on the Rodeo. Hoping that a safety switch will help, he is working very hard on it right now, even though it is hot outside. Each day, something just seems to go wrong with the vehicles. Mind you, the Rodeo is twenty years old. But I don’t know, eventually I will have to pay something to keep the Rodeo going, and I am afraid it will keep me from being able to take Security+.

I am going to take Security+. The exam I am going to take, is actually SY0-601 by COMPTIA. The exam is 90 minutes long, with a possibility of 90 exam questions. I have been researching my options in taking this exam. Both in taking it and preparing for it. UTA has a pretty interesting program, called Cyber-Security Boot Camp. It is a 24 week to 28 week long program, that immerses the person into the cybersecurity community, it includes 5 to 25 hours of study, including labs, and two mentor sessions. The UTA program does not accept the GI Bill.

The UTA Cybersecurity Boot Camp does not accept the GI Bill. So, in order to pay for the program, there are two options. One is to pay upfront, which is over seven thousand dollars. The other option is to take out a loan with Sallie Mae and with that option you get a discount, plus an exam voucher. I talked to my Mom, and she suggested filling out the FAFSA and seeing if I can score a grant. Then, I could pay directly, and maybe pay for an exam as well. When I googled Security+ UTA’s Cybersecurity boot camp came up as the first option. The UTA program is 100% online. It is flexible with self-paced study. But you need to study a bare minimum of 5 hours a week, and up to 25 hours a week. After graduation, you would have been prepared to take the security+ exam, plus it prepares you for the real world of dealing with networks, programming, and other subjects related to IT. CompTIA has its own program for studying for the exam. Here is a link to the offer: https://www.comptia.org/landing/securitybootcamp/ . They offer a Boot Camp which is ten days long. But this one is just for the exam. I really like this one, too. Ten days of Security+ training, plus access to the labs for a year, an exam and an exam retake voucher.

You can now take Security+ exam online now. On top of these resources, another resource that was recommended by someone in the Navy Reserves is Professor Messer. He did a series of YouTube videos on Security+. He covers the exam objectives. He also offers a book, with practice exams. So, these videos will hep in studying for the Security+ exam.
